Recently, i2Cool’s electricity-free cooling technology was successfully implemented in two major projects — at Hongchuan Petrochemical in Changzhou, Jiangsu, and Hang Lung Properties, covering over 5,000㎡ in total. These applications address temperature control in storage tanks and energy-saving for buildings, demonstrating the broad applicability of technology.
At Hongchuan Petrochemical, the technology enhances temperature stability in benzene storage tanks, reducing vaporization risks caused by temperature fluctuations. At Hang Lung’s Center 66, rooftop temperatures dropped by up to 36°C, significantly easing the burden on the air-conditioning system. As an emerging green technology, electricity-free cooling is being increasingly recognized by industry-leading enterprises as a preferred solution for cooling, energy-saving, and green transformation.
2,160㎡ Cooling Retrofit for Chemical Storage
Guangdong Great River Group Co.Ltd. is a market leader in the chemical storage sector, with tank capacity accounting for 10% of the entire market. Its subsidiary, Changzhou Hongchuan Petrochemical, focuses on liquid chemical storage and transportation, with extremely strict temperature control requirements to maintain long-term thermal stability.
This project involved benzene storage tanks, which are highly sensitive to temperature: overheating may lead to explosion, while low temperatures may cause solidification. Significant diurnal temperature differences, reaching up to 21°C between day and night in spring and summer, pose serious risks to tank safety. Traditional aluminum silicate insulation offers limited cooling, is costly, and has long construction periods.
After applying i2Cool’s electricity-free cooling coating, the average diurnal temperature fluctuation of the tank dropped to just 3.9°C, compared to nearly 10°C before application. The cooling performance is comparable to 100mm aluminum silicate panels, but the construction is much more convenient and cost-efficient.
The technology significantly reduces the frequency of the tank’s “breathing effect”, lowering benzene emissions and structural fatigue, improving operational stability and equipment lifespan. It proves capable of replacing conventional insulation materials in high-safety environments.
3,000㎡ Rooftop Cooling, Temperature Drop of up to 36°C
Located in the heart of Wuxi, Center 66 is a flagship commercial complex developed and operated by global real estate giant Hang Lung Properties. The project demands high standards in energy efficiency, aesthetic quality, and brand image.
Last year, a pilot application of i2Cool’s coating was carried out on the Level 6 rooftop, achieving promising results. This year, the project was scaled up to cover the entire rooftop of around 3,000㎡, advancing its green upgrade initiative. The rooftop, composed of aluminum panels and concrete, has strong thermal conductivity and suffers from intense heat due to kitchen exhaust and westward sun exposure, with summer surface temperatures reaching 53.6°C.
Following the application of i2Cool’s electricity-free cooling coating:
Peak surface temperatures dropped by up to 36°C
Average surface temperature dropped by 30–31°C
Interior surface temperatures dropped by 2–7°C
Estimated annual energy savings: 221,000 kWh
Estimated annual electricity cost savings: over CNY100,000
Before the application, maximum surface temperatures reached 78.8°C (right). After coating, surface heat dropped to as low as 24.5°C (left).
This project verified the real-world cooling performance of the coating under complex high-heat conditions, effectively reducing HVAC loads. The construction was non-intrusive, short in duration, and had minimal disruption, making it well-suited for commercial spaces that require continuous operations.
i2Cool’s coating system uses a standardized multi-layer process to ensure cooling performance and durability:
Surface treatment – Clean and sand the substrate for optimal adhesion.
Primer application – Apply anti-corrosion primer using roller coating.
Topcoat application – Apply the core electricity-free cooling layer with high solar reflectance and thermal emittance.
Clearcoat application – Add a transparent protective layer for weather resistance and stain protection.
From chemical storage tanks to commercial rooftops, i2Cool’s electricity-free cooling technology has earned high recognition from leading enterprises across industries for its safety, energy-saving, and adaptability — proving its capability for large-scale deployment. Looking ahead, i2Cool will continue to explore new frontiers of real-world application, driving the low-carbon transition of cities and industries through material innovation.
